of language and war tends to mute. When Ukrainian Designer Jean Gritsfeld
had the courage to do a fashion presentation at last BerlinFW in Winter 22
a few days after the invasion and as an immediate sensual reaction on
the events the audience was in an uncomfortable position. It was hard to
write something more about it than flat consternation cause it is a
no go to judge esthetically about a personal artistic answer to trauma.
The year is ending and one of the challenges now after eight months of
destruction is not to get used to it. In summer we saw pictures of
Ukrainian People trying not to let the agressors destroy their life
and humanity, they tried to go out and live. But is it actually possible
to create under daily threat? The Finalists of 'LOOK into the future',
Ukraines national Contest for upcoming Designers, answer on that
is 'You have to!' and it shows off as strength in craft. It's beauty
brings up hope for a healing in some future.
